3 roles you need NOW on your social team

In 2025 building a highly functioning organic social media team can be make or break for the entire organization. So needless to say, congratulations on taking steps towards building a kick ass business.

There are a few different shapes and sizes of teams but if you want to win on social, these are three roles you can’t miss (and a few bonus ones depending on your company size.)

1. The Social Specialist

Your strategist is your eyes and ears, looking for growth opportunities, cross referencing platform features to create the best strategy for your brand and …executing the plan. That’s right. At Entersquare, our specialists tend to wear a lot of hats from planning, to creating to analyzing reports. One thing is for sure, your specialist will make sure that the posts are strategized, posted and analyzed.

Average salary of a social specialist with middle tier experience in the US for 2024/2025 is $64,845 (*Zip recruiter). If you are leaning towards senior level (not their first rodeo) expect to pay between $64,845 and $140,000 depending upon location, size of business and team size.

2. The Creative

There’s nothing like spending a day capturing testimonial content with your customers only to realize the microphone wasn’t picking up audio. Or missing a trend or important moment for the business because of the lack of ability to make it work. We recommend that you have someone who is dedicated to content capture and editing. Adobe Premiere is their middle name and they’re no stranger to a DSLR camera. This person is essential to any winning content team. At Entersquare, we’ve found it’s easier to build an effective social media manager out of someone with a photography/video/design background than it is to build a talented social hire out of a pure administrative/marketing coordinator skillset. I believe in cross training our specialists and vice versa so you are working with a team of experts in their field, and competent in conversation with the right tools. Not just Canva and bad Ai.

Average salary of a social content creator with middle tier experience in the US for 2024/2025 is $58,000 (*Glassdoor). If you are leaning towards senior to director level expect to pay between $68k and $150,000 depending upon location, size of business and team size.

3. The Subject Matter (of the business) Expert
Who this person is: Someone who cares deeply about the success of the customer.
Who this person is NOT: someone in marketing or department “abc” who wants to please the three people above them to meet an arbitrary quota. They need to care. about. the. customer.

One of the main jobs of the social media team is to help create a feedback loop that helps inform of consumer behavior and drives innovation. A partner who can help make decisions on behalf of the business is ideal here. Who in your company has the authority to change the rules? What we’re trying to do here is equip the social media team with speed to serve. What we’re NOT doing is creating bureaucracy where posts need to be “approved” by 10 people. During my time at Ramsey Solutions (Dave Ramsey’s company) we had two people like this - 1. was a Sr. Copy Editor of ALL content that was coming from Dave (who is now leading all of social content at Ramsey) 2. was one of longest standing members (15+ years) of Ramsey Customer Care who knew exactly what to do and where to go for 1. accurate advice, and 2. quick service for customer care.

Bonus roles!
Depending on the size of your business you may also need to add:

Social media Director/Head of Social
If your business is making 10m+ in revenue and your social team is constantly in meetings vs. actually doing the work, you likely need to either hire or contract in a head of social. This role on average costs $94,507 to $210,000 (ZipRecruiter Glassdoor)

Community manager
Highly recommended in high engagement areas such as large Facebook groups, crisis management, or events with comments that need to be addressed in order to maximize revenue. Salary range on average for this role is $49,000 to $76,000 (ZipRecruiter)

Team Admin

Scheduling, planning, project managing shoot locations. Any good social media team has someone who helps the team stay well organized. For an administrative role expect to pay anywhere between $45,000 to $75,000.
